The two stand-out stories in the news today are the 20th Anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster and the Conservatives’ understandable attempts to keep the Damian McBride story going (and thereby get as much dirt as possible to stick to the rest of the Labour Party and especially Gordon Brown).
One of the MPs targetted with the proposed lies of Damian McBride has been in the news today attacking the ‘cesspit’ of the current government. She has a point but then again, twenty years ago Conservative MP Irvine Patnick was busy spreading lies to the media about how 96 people had come to die at Hillsborough. It was Patnick who was the source of the Sun’s notorious cover story about the actions of Liverpool fans; a story that hampers sales of the paper on Merseyside to this day.
It’s politics. There is very little moral high ground left for any of them to clamber on. A few politicians may be the ones largely responsible for the fouling, but they’re all in the cesspit.
